On July 3rd, Singer Jim Morrison of 'The Doors' died in Paris at age 27

On March 3rd, A jury in Los Angeles recommended the death penalty for Charles Manson and three female followers for the 1969 Tate-La Bianca murders.  (The sentences were later commuted.)

On March 8, In a fight labeled an "event that transcend[s] sport," Muhammad Ali lost the World Heavyweight boxing title to Joe Frazier in New York's Madison Square Garden.

On June 27, The United States Supreme Court cleared Muhammad Ali of the charge that he refused induction into the Armed Forces.

On June 30th, The 26th Amendment to the Constitution, lowering the minimum voting age to 18, was ratified.

On July 3rd, Singer Jim Morrison of 'The Doors' died in Paris at age 27.

On September 9th, Prisoners seized control of the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility near Buffalo, New York, beginning a siege that ended up claiming 43 lives.

On October 1st, Walt Disney World opens in Orlando, Florida featuring rides and characters from Disney's beloved movies.

On November 24th, Hijacker "D.B. Cooper" parachuted from a 727 over Washington state with $200,000 in ransom. His fate remains unknown.

Also this year, Coca-Cola's "Hilltop" commercial was seen featuring an international group of young people on an Italian hilltop singing "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke".
